We don't want to talk about rumors and speculation, but we're committed to continuing to enhance Franchise as element of our Madden NFL 22 live service and beyond. The announcement follows a report from Sports Gamers Online that EA was deciding to scrap additional franchise mode updates for Madden 22. It was partly based on IGN's chat with Madden 22 executive producer Seann Graddy, who said that this year's content roadmap was "slightly less ambitious than in years in the past" due to the fact that the team is focusing on a few key areas instead of trying to develop games on the same scale as Superstar KO, a well-received arcade mode that was introduced within Madden 20.

"I believe that the roadmap may be less ambitious than previous years because we're really focusing on a handful of core areas that are the core of Madden 22 and we are also getting underway on Madden 23 in a huge manner," Graddy said at the time. "So I'm sticking to what we've always said during the last two years"We're a live-streaming service and we'll be continuing to update the game, but we're not likely to be discussing any new modes."

The report garnered attention in part due to the fact that franchise mode is a thorny issue for certain Madden fans. In reality, the promised roadmap initially was a response to the campaign #fixmaddenfranchise that was circulating on Twitter during the second half of 2020. This began after news that EA was not planning any improvements to franchise mode.

Since this time, EA has released new commissioner tools as well as other enhancements that include a major overhaul of their scouting systems. Madden 22 also introduced an expanded scenario engineas well as season-long cutscenes, and coaching trees. Yet, fans continue to point to various areas where franchise mode may be better compared to the competition and range from the lack of customized options to the myriad of bugs.
