Well, one of the earliest GPS satellites launched was NAVSTAR 1 which was launched by Rockwell International in February 22, 1978. Seventeen feet in size with solar panels extended, it has a lifespan of 7.5 years. It was able to reach an altitude of 10,900 nautical miles and orbit the earth in 12 hours.

On the other hand, Boeing announced last September 9, 2007 that it had finished the assembly of the first satellite in the Block IIF series. Boeing is reportedly commissioned to manufacture and launch 12 Block IIF satellites, the first of which will be launched in 2009.
