What do you mean by "map making" practicing cartography of an area or making waypoints of locations and things within an already mapped area?

You might need third party software to do that. Check this site:
http://www.expertgps.com/gps-receivers/Garmin-nuvi-350.asp
They have info on a software for what you need.
