Since it was the US Dept. of Defense who initiated this system, it was approved by the government, which I think has a direct hand in the GPS.

Just like the internet, technologies like these were first developed primarily for the use of the military. It was later released when a separate module for the mainstream have been developed thoroughly. In turn, the module that was intended for military purposes have been compartmentalized

Are you sure JAKEHENLY, that the Internet was first used for military purposes? I don't think so, internet was first used as a tool for communication by different types of networks. C'mon dude, are you sure you did some research with this?

Am I sure? Well, yes I am. well, It was not as exact as what he have on the present internet setup. But prior technologies that led to what we have were used primarily by the military. And I guess, the task of doing research is not mine.
