Re: Who is responsible for inventing this gadget?
Since it was the US Dept. of Defense who initiated this system, it was approved by the government, which I think has a direct hand in the GPS.

Re: Who is responsible for inventing this gadget?
Just like the internet, technologies like these were first developed primarily for the use of the military. It was later released when a separate module for the mainstream have been developed thoroughly. In turn, the module that was intended for military purposes have been compartmentalized

in reply to rainman's posting:
Am I sure? Well, yes I am. well, It was not as exact as what he have on the present internet setup. But prior technologies that led to what we have were used primarily by the military. And I guess, the task of doing research is not mine.
