cannot detect GPS

hello,
I have GPS device - Evesham, but it cannot dected GPS signal, I set port com 1, speed 14450 bps, but nothing, all time searching GPS, by setting another port number, it says that cannot connect to those ports, only port 1. Maybe should I something to change in gps.setting files?
