iPhone GPS built in function

Does iPhone have GPS or it’s just a gossip? I heard from many sources before that iPhone will be GPS compliant, but now as date approaches for the release of the phone, it seems that it was just a gossip. Please post any info about compatibility since I am intending on buying one just for the GPS compatibility reason.
